Project #206 - The Oakville Curling Club

Picture
PROJECT NAME -  Rink Floor Replacement Project

Project Description:

Capital projects undertaken during the club's 2021 COVID-19 shutdown, including the replacement of the rink concrete floor.

The proceeds from this fundraising will be used for the following cause(s):

Oakville Curling Club is closed for the 2020/2021 curling season. During the shutdown, the club is planning on tackling a variety of capital projects, including repairing/replacing the rink floor. Other projects include:

1. Exploring/planning/costing the rink floor replacement project, including obtaining a structural engineering report on the condition of the floor and possible repair/replacement options
2. Retrofitting the club's existing HVAC system for air purification and dehumidification
2. Replace the existing rink cameras and tvs
3. Men's locker room renovation, including replacing existing lockers
4. Other ice surface and rink improvements (repairing rink walls, painting, etc)
5. Insulation of north clubhouse wall

Some of the funds may be used to offset operating or fixed costs related to the capital projects plan.

It is expected that only a portion of the projects will be funded by members' donations, with the remainder being funded, if necessary, by the club's cash reserves, borrowing, and other fundraising efforts. All projects are tentative pending sufficient funds are raised.
Fundraising Start Date:  01/24/2021
Fundraising End Date:   12/31/2021

How this project will assist in promoting or developing amateur sport on a national level.

The Oakville Curling Club is one of the busiest and most well-known curling clubs in Ontario.

Aside from it's nearly 1000-strong membership who play 7 days per week from October to April, the club is also home to the Oakville Summer League, a vibrant summer curling program that includes youth camps, a series of high performance competitions, and amateur and recreational curling leagues for participants from across Southern Ontario. The club also plays host to a variety of in-house events during the winter that are open to members and guests, including the World Lefthanders Championship and the Kurl4Kids Charity Bonspiel in support of the Oakville Hospital Foundation and the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.

The Oakville Curling Club also hosts a Special Olympics program for youth and adults with learning and physical disabilities, weekly high school physical education classes and athletics programs, and a large 'Learn-to-Curl' program to introduce neighbours and members of the community to the sport.

These enhancements will improve the quality of the playing surface we are able to provide, improve the experience of both members and guests, and further the OCC's mission of promoting amateur curling in the GTA.

Projected amount of money to be raised: $500,000
