Project #198 - Richmond Hill Curling Club

PROJECT NAME -  Re-Opening Safely in October 2021
Picture

Project Description:

The Richmond Hill Curling Club needs your support during this season’s COVID-19-related closure. Your generous contributions will go towards helping the Club implement necessary measures to ensure a safe reopening in October 2021, offsetting operating expenses during the current closure, and growing next season's membership by promoting curling in our community.

The proceeds from this fundraising will be used for the following cause(s):s

Enhanced sanitizing and cleaning services, marketing efforts to maintain and grow our membership to ensure long-term sustainability of the Club, promotion of key programs such as our Learn to Curl programs, utilities, insurance, day-to-day operational costs and security.

Projected amount of money to be raised: $30,000

How this project will assist in promoting or developing amateur sport on a national level.

This project will help sustain our Club through the pandemic to assure we are available to continue offering amateur curling to the community in the next season and for years to come.

Historically, from late September until mid-April, RHCC welcomes 565 members of the community to engage in recreational and competitive curling. With 6 sheets of ice, RHCC hosts twelve weekly curling programs accommodating seniors, adults, "Little Rocks" (children ages 6 to 11), and Juniors (youth ages 12 to 20). RHCC also runs the following programs through the season:
  • a Special Olympics program for youth and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities;·         host many school groups and plan to offer it again once it is safe to do so;
  • rolling "Learn-to-Curl" programs introducing people in the community to the sport throughout the season; and
  • a local teachers league.

RHCC also hosts competitive provincial and national-level bonspiels, which serve approximately 800 additional community members and guests.

When not in use, the ice is available for special events. The Club hosts the annual fundraisers CurlersCare (benefitting military families) and Curl-for-Cancer, and the facilities are also available for corporate team building activities. These special events serve an average of 1400 people annually.
