Project #108 - Hamilton Victoria Curling Club

PROJECT NAME - GREAT ICE!!!
Picture

Project Description:

Our current Ice King (ice scraper) is 20-25 years old or older (exact age unknown). Slowly over the years it has become harder to handle due to the failing hydraulic system and it's great weight in addition to aging parts fatigue.
Because we are a member run club with limited revenue we have only one paid ice maker. His assistants are volunteers from our membership, due to the condition and questionable reliability of the ice scraper the result has limited club participation which is needed to ensure every league (house and rental) and every draw has GREAT ICE.

The proceeds from this fundraising will be used for the following cause(s):s

The purchase of one new Ice Scraper, and repairs to one of our five flat roofs.

Projected amount of money to be raised: $25,000

How this project will assist in promoting or developing amateur sport on a national level.

Whenever we watch a sport on a provincial, national or world level we can be sure of one indisputable fact, athletes start at a local level. Whether it be on a baseball diamond, tennis court, soccer or football field, hockey or curling rink they have this one thing in common.

Without the availability of quality facilities locally, few athletes would reach the elite level of their sport as we have just seen at the Winter Olympics.

Since the winter games we have had an increased interest in curling. In order to maintain the best experience for existing members and provide a positive experience for those new to curling we must supply a quality product, our product is "GREAT ICE".

Recently our club hosted another successful OCA u18 Men/Women Provincials Event and on March 24 we will host u15 (draw 1) u18 (draw 2). Along the way we have hosted both local and provincial events. Many events such as these are the pathway to national and international competition, which in turn popularize and encourage participation in sport at a local amateur level.

"You don't have to be great to start but you have to start to be great"
